The excellent performances by the cast are also what raise this movie well above your ordinary action movie.. The filmmakers pay lip service to the story's racial undertones without ever really rocking the leaky boat.. A masterpiece of genre film-making, really worth to watch.. It doesn't have a genuine moment. But even period authenticity would not compensate for cardboard characters and a contrived narrative.. What a drag that, one year into Obama's presidency, American films remain so careful...
